In 2006, William Ebenstein, Executive Director of the JFK, Jr. Institute, received a Mayoral Advocacy Award for the Institute's work with the Youth Transition Demonstration Project and the Graduate Certificate in Disability Studies. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Commissioner Matthew Sapolin presented the award at Gracie Mansion.
- In 2005, the JFK, Jr. Institute was recognized as the "Community Partner of the Year" by the Young Adult Institute/National Institute for People with Disabilities.
- Reaching Up and the JFK, Jr. Institute for Worker Education have been recognized for their advocacy
on behalf of consumers and workers by several organizations including Lifespire in
2001, the New York State Association of Community and Residential
Agencies (NYSACRA) in 1998, the Home Care Association
of New York State in 1997, the New York City Board of Education in 1997, and the Association
for the Help of Retarded Children in 1994.
- In 1999 the Kennedy Fellows Program was featured
on the CBS show "Sunday Morning."
