The Institute developed a new Master’s of Arts in Disability Studies program, which will begin in the spring semester of 2009. The 30-credit Master's in Disability Studies was created in partnership with, and is offered through, CUNY’s School of Professional Studies.
The Master's in Disability Studies is designed for human service professionals, advocates, researchers, scholars and policy makers who are interested in an interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach to the exploration of disability as a social construct, social phenomenon, and culture.
Required courses include:
- Psycho-Social, Cultural and Political Aspects of Disability
- Embodiment and Disability
- Disability and the Family Life Cycle
- Disability and Diversity
- Disability Law and Policy
- Research Methods
- Capstone Course
Students also choose from these electives:
- Disability History
- Disability and Narrative
- Disability Studies and the Humanities
- Disability Studies in Education
- Disability Studies and the Health Professions
- Disability Services Administration
- Students with Disabilities in Higher Education
- Fieldwork in Disability Services
- Independent Study

The Master's in Disability Studies provides an opportunity to study with renowned faculty and expert practitioners. The Master's Degree has been approved by the New York State Board of Regents.
