The Institute sponsors a four-course, 12-credit undergraduate certificate in Youth Studies for incumbent youth workers at nonprofit organizations and public agencies. This interdisciplinary certificate has been offered through Lehman College and NYC College of Technology. A total of 83 youth workers have received a certificate.
DYCD Scholars is a new iteration of the Youth Studies Certificate, sponsored by NYC’s Department of Youth and Community Development and the JFK, Jr. Institute. This 12-credit program features counseling, new curriculum and an evaluation component, and is supported by the Wallace Foundation. DYCD Scholars are staff selected from DYCD’s Beacon and Out-of-School Time funded programs.
An initial cohort of DYCD Scholars began their five-course sequence in January 2007 at Lehman College. In addition to a non-credit College Bridge course, courses include:
- Introduction to Youth Studies
- Psychology of Adolescence
- Recreation Leadership
- Youth and Disability
Another cohort of DYCD Scholars began the program in Fall 2007 at two sites: Lehman College’s CUNY on the Concourse in the Bronx and the JFK, Jr. Institute in Manhattan.
