The CUNY Youth Transition Demonstration Project (YTDP) is a seven-year, multi-million dollar research and demonstration project funded by the Social Security Administration and Mathematica Policy Research.

The purpose of the CUNY YTDP is to prepare 400+ Bronx youth with disabilities who are receiving SSI benefits to achieve maximum independence and economic self-sufficiency. To this end we have designed a series of campus-based interventions to improve the educational and employment outcomes of 16-19 year olds with disabilities, who are receiving SSI benefits and live in the Bronx.  This program is offered at Lehman College and Hostos Community College. Major interventions include:

  • Saturday College Program for Youth and their Parents
  • SSI Benefits Counseling
  • Person-Centered Planning
  • Summer and After-School Jobs Program
  • Referrals and Follow-Up
